Health Services Coordinator
MELALEUCA REFUGEE CENTRE
Melaleuca Refugee Centre (MRC) provides a range of services to people from refugee and migrant backgrounds who are newly arrived to the Northern Territory (NT). These services include Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP), Settlement and Engagement Transition Services (SETS), provision of the Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (PASTT), and access to a range of community development programs that enable people to experience caring communities.
The Melaleuca Health Support Services (HSS) complements these services by promoting the coordination and integration of health services for newly arrived refugees (first 18 months of settlement) and migrants (first 5 years of settlement).
THE ROLE
The Health Services Coordinator (HSC) applies a social model of care (non-clinical) to facilitate and support the provision of culturally appropriate, comprehensive, and sustainable primary health care services for newly arrived refugees within their first 18 months of settlement; and migrants within their first 5 years in the NT, as contracted by NT Primary Health Network (NTPHN).
The HSC networks and collaborates with all areas of the NT health sector to support the building of a workforce that is able to respond to the unique health needs of refugees and migrants. Similarly the HSC builds the capacity of MRC case coordinators to coordinate and/or support the Refugee Health Assessment (RHA) for newly arrived humanitarian entrants; and SETS providers to assist migrants in navigating the health system.
