The Territory Government is refusing to release a million-dollar review that reportedly shows massive health budget blowouts.

The Territory paid KPMG $1 million to consult on a “return to budget strategy” for NT Health — which has blown its budget seven times in the past eight years.

The department reported an operating deficit of $11.3 million last financial year.

An NT Government spokesperson says the report will not be made public.

Deputy Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro called for its release.

“The Minister must justify to Territorians why a $1 million contract was awarded to external consultants and why a budget strategy could not have been developed within Government,” she said.

“The Opposition believes that if the Government really is 'open and transparent' it would make this report public. If it doesn't, it raises the question; ‘What exactly are they hiding?’”
