Inala Wangarra is a not-for-profit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled, development association based in Inala, which develops partnerships and programs with and for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Inala, Brisbane and surrounding suburbs. As one of Queensland’s leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community development organisations, Inala Wangarra is owned, managed and directed entirely by local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Inala Wangarra’s vision is for a strong, proud and prosperous community that is walking tall, united in culture, spirit and identity. Our fundamental belief is that all people, regardless of their cultural, social and economic background, have the strengths and resources within themselves to bring about real changes in their lives, their family and their community. The organisation is based at Our Meeting Place, 67 Poinsettia Street Inala and has been incorporated since March 2005.
Qualifications & experience
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Demonstrates strong organisational, time management and communication skills.
- Has the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Can lead a program of works focussed on suicide prevention within the community.
- Can coordinate relevant training programs for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of the Inala community and surrounding suburbs.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Be responsible for the day to day development, coordination and management of lnala Wangarra's suicide prevention programs;
- Work with and report to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Board of lnala Wangarra on project outcomes, issues and progress the development of suicide prevention programs;
- Liaise with relevant government and non-government agencies in a position of support for the aims and objectives of the relevant projects;
- Meet internal reporting requirements which involve accurate record-keeping, data collection and report preparation, including in relation to the distribution of brokerage funds;
- Actively support the identification of and application to grant and funding opportunities that further support the growth and sustainability of the related projects;
- Develop, implement and coordinate the delivery of suicide prevention programs, achieving the relevant specific Key Performance Indicators;
- Recruit, retain and manage facilitators, artists, staff and volunteers for the related projects;
- Oversee the development, implementation and review of risk management strategies that support the relevant projects;
- Manage and document project expenditure in line with agreed budget and lnala Wangarra's Financial policies and procedures;
- Source innovative and creative solutions to support Indigenous young people, their families, the community and local service networks to address suicide prevention, intervention and recovery strategies;
