Location: Position based in Wollongong, however is a district wide position so will require some travel across the district.


What you'll be doing

Child Protection Services provides multiple services across ISLHD, providing leadership and capacity building within this portfolio. The service is integrated within the ISLHD Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) services. Working collaboratively with the PARVAN leadership team, and with guidance from the Manager, the Child Protection Educator is responsible for supporting the ISLHD workforce to appropriately recognise and respond to Child Protection and related violence and abuse issues.

The Child Protection Educator will coordinate and facilitate training packages, including the provision of mandated child protection training to increase understanding, identification and reporting of children at suspected risk of significant harm and support implementation and ongoing development of child protection policy and practice within ISLHD.

Job-Share to be considered for this role

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Selection Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications in the social sciences, social work or other relevant discipline and/or extensive experience.
  2. Considerable experience and understanding of child protection principles and practice, within a health context, including understanding of the policy and legislative context and current reforms within the sector.
  3. Demonstrated experience in developing, facilitating, delivering and evaluating adult education and training.
  4. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including the ability to elicit pertinent information, provide timely and relevant advice, negotiate and problem solve.
  5. Advanced skills in building and sustaining collaborative relationships, networking with a range of stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated competence in the use of electronic information management systems and proven ability to initiate, lead and complete quality improvement activities and service evaluation processes.
  7. Excellent analytical skills including high level skills in risk assessment and decision making.
  8. Current NSW Drivers Licence.
