NSW Health Pathology is in the process of future proofing and expanding its Microbiology Services in the New England region. If you a have a desire to expand your skills in Pathology into the field of Microbiology or just what to work in a country based Microbiology dept then this is the job for you. 

In the coming months our Microbiology dept in Tamworth will be actively recruiting into this role and this is your chance to get ahead of the pack. Noting this recruitment will curate an eligibility list for future vacancies.
You will be working in a small team of 5 staff who carry out all Microbiological culture services to the New England region for NSW Health Pathology. You will be based in our Tamworth laboratory where specimens are referred from the enitre New England an area roughly the size of Tasmania over a 7 day rostered period

What you'll be doing

Perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) and technical tasks by applying established methods and procedures, as directed. Undertake other laboratory duties including preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.

1. Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations
2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
3. Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
4. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
5. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
6. Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
7. Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand NSW Health Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases. All recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. All recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

All NSW Health workers are required to have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, as defined by NSW Health. Employees working in a clinical area or are required to attend clinical areas are considered category A. Category A positions are required to provide evidence of having received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (TGA) and meet the requirements of the Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
