The Federal Government has announced funding of up to $10 million for Wimmera Base Hospital which will contribute towards a new 20 bed sub-acute unit in Horsham.

The Wimmera Health Care Group's chief executive, Chris Scott, says the much-needed funding would help meet the growing shortage of sub-acute services in the region.

"There's a big gap in the service profile in the Wimmera around sub-acute services and the benefits that this will provide to Wimmera people will be exceptional," he said.

"We'll be able to have cardiac rehab and post-surgical rehab in surgical facilities here in Horsham."
