The Queensland Government has announced $4.58 million injection for rehabilitation services in the Mackay Base Hospital for patients recovering from major surgery and illness.

“This funding partnership with the Federal Government will deliver two extra rehabilitation beds at Mackay Base Hospital and provide additional outreach services including a team of visiting rehabilitation specialists working right across the region” Queensland Health Minister Geoff Wilson said.

The funding is a joined effort between the Federal and State Governments under the $675.7 million National Health and Hospitals Network National Partnership Agreement on Improving Public Hospital Services.

“It’s also a boost for local health jobs, with new staff to be employed including a specialist rehabilitation physician, and a range of allied health services such as podiatrist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist and speech pathologist.
