The Victorian Government has announced it has granted the approval of the new site for the Charlton Hospital following its destruction in the 2011 floods.

The new hospital site will include 15 beds, facilities for urgent care and primary care, a medical clinic, ambulance station, helipad, administration and support services.

“This new hospital will deliver an expanded range of health services to more than 1,400 locals and is an important support close to home for Charlton’s elderly residents and their families, rather than having to travel considerable distances to alternative facilities,” State Planning Minister Matthew Guy said.

State Minister for Health David Davis said the Victorian Coalition Government had delivered $22.7 million in the 2012 State Budget to re-build the Charlton campus of East Wimmera Health Service.

“This purpose-built facility will include residential aged care and inpatient bed-based services, urgent care, primary care and allied health services, including the co-location of general practitioner services,” Mr Davis said.

“I would like to thank all project partners for their enthusiasm, drive and commitment to the development of what will be a first-class facility that will provide essential health care services to the residents of Charlton and surrounding districts well into the future.”
