The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory in the Ballarat Base Hospital is nearing completion. The cardiac laboratory is part of a $20 million redevelopment of the hospital, which also includes upgrade of the special care nursery and maternity outpatients ward.

"For the first time, patients will be able to have stents inserted at Ballarat Base Hospital rather than being referred to other hospitals. The hospital will also be able to cater for patients who previously had to travel to Melbourne for cardiac treatment,” State Health Minister David Davis said.

The laboratory will also feature the first fully integrated Siemens cardiology-angiography imaging system to be installed in a regional Australian hospital.
