The Victorian State Government has announced that expressions of interest for the construction of the new Bendigo Hospital can now be lodged.

The hospital, which will be the largest regional hospital in the state, will generate 735 jobs during its construction, 500 of which will be maintained for at least three years during the peak construction period for the hospital.

The announcement by the government comes after the State Budget earmarked a further $102 million in funding, bringing the value of the hospital's investment to $630 million.

"It will assist Bendigo Health in creating a skilled workforce for the future provision of high quality patient care through investment in facilities, education and training," Victorian Minister for Health David Davis said.

The new facilities will also contribute to the development of a leading teaching and research hub specialising in rural healthcare in co-operation with the universities in the Bendigo Health Precinct.
