The Federal Government has announced continued funding for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program in the 2011-12 Budget.

$138.7 million in Federal funding has been allocated over four years to restart the program after the previous funding period ended in late 2010.

The program has been promised to be continually funded by progressive Federal Budgets, the first time any Federal Government has committed to ongoing funding for the program.

Recent research has shown that more than $1 billion is spent on bowel cancer each year, through treatment and hospitalization of patients.
