The Victorian Government has announced that construction of the $447.5 million Box Hill Hospital redevelopment has commenced.

The announcement comes after the State Government committed an extra $40 million in this year’s state budget, which will deliver an additional 100 beds when construction finishes.

The redevelopment includes a larger emergency department with up to 20 beds for short stay patients, 11 new operating theatres and a new 18-bed intensive care unit.

The construction of the hospital will be handled by engineering firm Baulderstone, with work expected to be finished by 2015.
