The Shining the Light on Child Protection E-learning Program is now available.

The e-learning resource was developed in 2010 by CCWT and was funded by the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The program is available as a CD Rom or as a download version. It is a free resource for relevant organisations in the community sector.

A copy can be forwarded on request and be used to support the professional development needs of staff.

This interactive e-learning program aims to assist workers who work with children, young people and their families to:

  • Update their legislative knowledge, including the Keep Them Safe reforms, such as the grounds for reporting and information exchange provisions.
  • Explore some of the complex issues surrounding the recognition and response to abuse and risk of harm.
  • Understand child protection reporting requirements including the reporting threshold of risk of significant harm and using the Mandatory Reporter Guide.

The program is made up of separate modules that can be undertaken all at once or completed as a self paced learning program over a period of time. Completion of the program may take between 4 to 6 hours in total.

The content of this e-learning program is based on some of the requirements of the following unit of competency from the Community Services Training Package: CHCCHILD401A Identify and respond to children and young people at risk.

This unit has been identified as the entry level unit of competency for all who work with children and young people and their families. Completion of this online program is complemented with a one day face to face blended learning option, which will further assist the learning required to complete the assessments and achieve the competency.
