Recruitment specialist Hays has published its Quarterly Report – October 2011, finding that health professionals in aged care and specialist nursing fields top the list of skills in demand as job vacancies rise in the healthcare industry.

"Aged Care candidates are a continuous area of need within Australia's healthcare recruiting market. Also in short supply are candidates for rural and remote roles, particularly Nurses and Doctors, as well as Operating Theatre and specialist surgical nursing candidates. We expect Occupational Health Nurses to be a potential growth area off the back of the mining boom," the report found.

"Employers are more willing to sponsor healthcare professionals who possess skills in short supply. Hospitals are increasingly prepared to be flexible when recruiting by dropping the years of experience required in order to fill roles."

“Top quality candidates are still in demand and securing jobs. Some organisations might consider reviewing their hiring needs this quarter, however those wanting to maximise growth in the near term are unlikely to alter their recruitment plans,” Grahame Doyle, Director of Hays, said.

Healthcare professionals are experiencing increased demand in New South Wales, particularly in the fields of aged care, nursing and doctors in rural and remote areas, operating theatre and specialist surgical nursing and occupational health nursing
