The Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) is convening a National Health Reform Simulation Event on 21-22 June in Canberra. The simulation will test the Commonwealth and state governments’ health reform plans and will contribute to their effective implementation.

The simulation will be designed to model the system for the purpose of learning from the interactions between the players as they implement the reforms over the next three years.  It will involve clinicians, health managers, policy shapers and journalists and others who will enact highly realistic scenarios.

The AHHA says the manner in which the reforms are implemented over the next four years will be critical to achieving a well-performing health system as well as harnessing provider and community support to ensure its future evolution.

The outcome of the Simulation will complement other approaches to planning implementation such as reliance on historical experience and use of quantitative data.  Other likely outcomes will also include identifying gaps for service provision and the exposure of unintended consequences of the reforms.

The simulation is based on the NHS/Kings Fund Rubber Windmill experience.
