Health Workforce Australia (HWA) has released the first directions paper after it’s publishing of the Clinical Supervision Support Program (CSSP).

The directions paper provides a summary of the feedback given to the policy options published in the CSSP Discussion Paper released in July 2010. The discussion paper has ‘helped inform the projects which now form the CSSP work program’, which now focuses on:

  • Defining roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of key stakeholders involved in the delivery of clinical training and supervision;
  • Improving the quality of clinical supervision at organisation, service and clinical supervisor levels;
  • Improving coordination and consistency of supervision approaches across higher education and clinical training providers;
  • Enhancing clinical supervision capacity in the health system; and
  • Promoting continuous improvement and innovation in clinical supervision.

The National CSSP has recently been developed to guide and support clinical education and training activity in the health sector. In particular, it will inform and underpin projects and activities undertaken as part of the CSSP. It aims to promote high standards of clinical supervision, to expand capacity and capability, and to cultivate public trust in health professional education and training.
