Health Minister Sussan Ley has survived the weekend’s cabinet reshuffle, but important parts of health policy may not be covered.

The New South Wales MP said she was “absolutely delighted” to keep the health and sport portfolios in a big re-jig that saw many LNP stalwarts ousted.

“The Prime Minister rang me [Sunday] morning and we had a chat and I said I’d like to keep my portfolios,” she told Fairfax reporters on the weekend.

“It’s always a difficult week when the changes happen, but we’re really dedicated to what we’re doing in the heath portfolio.”

Some say it was a wise choice due to the mound of unfinished business Ms Ley has after her first nine months in the role.

There are reviews of the Medicare Benefits Schedule Taskforce and Primary Health Care Advisory Group on right now, and they are due to report to the Federal Government by the end of the year.

But Opposition leader Bill Shorten said Mr Turnbull overlooked key areas of health policy.

“I’m disappointed that there’s no minister for disabilities or mental health and housing,” Mr Shorten said on Sunday.
