The Federal Government has appointed Leigh McJames as the new general manager of the National Blood Authority (NBA).

Mr McJames is currently the executive director, corporate support at Albury Wodonga Health. He was deputy general manager of the NBA for two years from 2006 to 2008.

Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Catherine King, aid Mr McJames would bring strong knowledge and experience with the NBA and blood sector to the position, as well as a strong vision and strategic leadership capability, strong skills in engaging with stakeholders and a strong senior executive presence.

“I am looking forward to working with Mr McJames in this important position responsible for Australia’s national blood arrangements,” Ms King said.

It is expected that Mr McJames will take up his new position in late March.

The NBA acts on behalf of all Australian governments and is responsible for planning for demand and supply of blood and blood products.

The NBA administers an annual budget of more than $1 billion to which the Australian Government contributes 63 per cent. The remainder is provided by the states and territories.
