The Queensland State Government has announced funding totalling a $1.67 million initiative for emergency medical research projects.

“We’re committed to supporting those who are discovering new ways of delivering treatment in this critical field” said Queensland Health Minister Geoff Wilson.

“Emergency departments are the frontline of our health system with more than 4300 patients receiving care every day.”

Mr Wilson said the Queensland Emergency Medicine Research Foundation has awarded over $5.5 million to emergency medicine projects in Queensland since it was established in 2008.

Five types of grants were awarded to 12 recipients for research on diverse issues such as treatments for trauma, patient flow and infections.

“Research & professional training is the one of the best investments we can make to help us deliver quality healthcare,” he said.
