Canadian public health expert Dr Jean-Frederic Levesque has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the New South Wales Government’s Bureau of Health Information.

 

 Dr Levesque is an international expert in measuring health system performance measurement and evaluating primary health care.

 

Dr Levesque is a medical doctor with a PhD in public health and the organisation of care. He is currently Scientific Director, Analyses and Evaluation of Health Systems, in Quebec’s Institute of Public Health and was formerly Deputy Commissioner, Performance Appraisal and Analysis, in Quebec’s Health and Welfare Commission. Dr Levesque recently spent time in Australia as a visiting academic at the University of Melbourne to conduct an evaluation for the North and West Metropolitan Region of the Victorian Department of Health.

 

He will take over the position from Acting Chief Executive Kim Browne, who has led the Bureau since February 2012 and will continue to do so until Dr Levesque commences work in Sydney in March 2013.
