The NSW Government is encouraging nominations for the inaugural Ministerial Award for Cardiovascular Research.

This is an opportunity chance for the work of senior scientists, clinicians or health services specialists within NSW who have made outstanding contributions to medical research to be recognised.

The annual award will recognise and celebrate the dedication and achievements of one of NSW most gifted researchers and clinicians in cardiovascular disease, including stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.

The NSW Cardiovascular Research Network (CVRN) is a unique collaboration of NSW research institutes, organisations and individuals from the cardiovascular workforce - in conjunction with the NSW Government and the Heart Foundation.

Tony Thirlwell, NSW Heart Foundation CEO, says the award is a great opportunity to showcase the hard work and dedication of one of our state’s most respected and trusted researchers.

"This is an opportunity to celebrate the high achievers in NSW who have had a significant positive impact on the cardiovascular health of this state and who deserve to be recognised for their contributions to the health of our society," Mr Thirlwell said.

"Cardiovascular disease continues to be a major burden on our state and is one of Australia’s most devastating health problems; therefore it is humbling to reward someone who has dedicated their career to relieving the burden of cardiovascular disease," he said.

Application forms are available from the Heart Foundation website

The award will be presented at the CVRN Showcase Conference in NSW Parliament House on Wednesday October 26, 2011.
