The Queensland Government has unveiled a $3.7 million children’s health care plan that it says will improve access to specialist paediatric services.

State Health Minister, Lawrence Springborg, said that the initiative includes a strengthened network of support and services designed to provide co-ordinated care for families.

“Together, these initiatives aim to ensure access to the best possible, family-centred care for children and families, no matter where they live in Queensland,” Mr Springborg said.

“A key part of the package is the appointment of ‘care co-ordinators’ across the state, dedicated to managing the health care needs of children and young people with complex and chronic conditions.

Mr Springborg said that the system of co-ordinators will be coming online from July this year, and will serve to significantly improve communications between healthcare providers and consumers.
