The person who oversaw the launch of Brisbane's Lady Cilento Children's Hospital has resigned ahead of a new report into the facility.

Children's Health Queensland chair Susan Johnston handed Health Minister Cameron Dick her resignation last week.

The Children's Health Queensland board has been responsible for the $1.5 billion Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, which has fallen foul of public sentiment due to strong criticisms from families of patients.

Staff have joined the criticism of the new facilities, raising concerns that the hospital’s opening late last year was rushed.

An independent clinical review this year reported confusion and dysfunction in the weeks after the opening, including claims that staff had not been adequately trained and that key services were not in place.

The first report prompted Mr Dick to order a broader look, and the findings from that are expected to be handed down soon.

Previously, Ms Johnston has stood by the timing of the opening, saying they did the right thing from a clinical safety point of view, and moved at an appropriate time.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has thanked Ms Johnston for her service, and saying that she will speak to the Health Minister about the upcoming report.

“What we know is that we have the very best health professionals at the Lady Cilento Hospital,” she said.

“I want to pay tribute to the nurses and the doctors, everyone who works there to make sure our children are getting the best care.”
