Midwife/Child Health Nurse (FIFO)


Location: Cairns servicing Cape York communities (FIFO - Monday to Friday roster)
Status: Full Time, Fixed Term (until 30/06/2024)
Salary: $115,464 - $128,584 p.a. + 11% super

About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.

About the Opportunity
The Midwife/Child Health Nurse will provide direct and comprehensive child health and midwifery services as part of a multi-disciplinary team. A typical week involves flying out from Cairns on Monday morning and returning to Cairns on Thursday evening. Administration and reporting is completed on Friday in the Cairns office. You will be provided with accommodation and travel allowance.

It is a condition of employment for this position that the employee be vaccinated against COVID-19 in accordance with the organisational policy requirements.

Pre-employment screening for vaccination against Vaccine Preventable Diseases will be conducted for the successful applicant.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery (or as required to be registered with AHPRA)
  • Dual registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse and Midwife 
  • A post graduate qualification in Child Health is highly desirable 
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in clinical problem solving at an advanced level
  • Knowledge of legal and professional responsibilities as a Midwife / Child Health Nurse including relevant Nursing and Midwifery Standards
  • Queensland immunisation endorsement or willingness to undertake and complete the qualification within a specified time frame
  • Current Queensland Drivers Licence
  • AFP National Police Check
  • Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs
