What you'll be doing
The Ludwig Engel Centre for Respiratory Research (LECRR) combines both laboratory research and clinical studies aimed at identifying the pathophysiological basis of respiratory and sleep disorders.
 
The respiratory function research scientist is a research and clinical laboratory-based role with a combination of research and clinical responsibilities. The respiratory research scientist will be responsible for collecting questionnaires, clinical, and respiratory function data in patients with pulmonary disease and in otherwise healthy patients. The main responsibility of this role is study co-ordination, participant recruitment, collection and collation of data, in particular respiratory function data, maintenance of an electronic database, and data analysis including statistical analysis in addition to manuscript preparation.
 
The respiratory function research scientist will also perform clinical complex respiratory function testing including spirometry and measurement of lung volumes, diffusion capacity, airway reactivity, allergic responses, exercise capacity and responses to hypoxia. This will require calibration and preparation of equipment used in performance of respiratory function tests and maintaining equipment and accessories to optimum hygiene standards.

Essential Requirements

Qualification:  Science degree in relevant area

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in clinical respiratory function measurement.
  2. Proven ability to work effectively to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  3. Experience working within a team and autonomously to meet required outcomes.
  4. Excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills including research presentation skills.
  5. Demonstrated experience in research studies including database management.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of quality assurance principles.
  7. Demonstrated experience in data analysis and statistical analysis.
