The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, located in Sydney, was established in 1994 and is recognised as an international centre of excellence in biomedical research, with a focus on heart disease and cardiovascular biology. It places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches within and across its research divisions, which are focused on Developmental and Stem Cell Biology, Cardiac Physiology and Transplantation, Molecular Cardiology & Biophysics, Molecular Genetics and Structural and Computational Biology. The Institute is housed in a state-of-the-art research building located within the St Vincent’s Hospital Research & Biotechnology Precinct in the Inner Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst, Sydney.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant (FTE) who will support the Institute’s needs for histology and pluripotent stem cell biology. The appointment will be within the Developmental and Stem Cell Biology Division of the Institute, directed by Professor Richard Harvey. Your responsibilities will include all aspects of tissue histology (harvesting, fixation, microtome and cryostat sectioning, staining and immunohistochemistry), and technical support services for the induced pluripotent stem cell laboratory (including laboratory management, preparation of reagents, tissue culture, cell processing, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology).

Applicants will hold a Bachelor of Science or similar degree (preferably with Honours or above). The successful applicant will be highly motivated and capable of independent work as well as performing well in a team. Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are required. Hands-on experience with tissue culture techniques and molecular biology are essential. Human pluripotent stem cell culture experience is preferred.
