The Role

We are offering an opportunity to contribute to Defence wellbeing and capability by leading a team of mental health professionals supporting clients and providing advice to commanders managing incidents of sexual misconduct in Defence. 

Established in 2013 in the Department of Defence, SeMPRO assists people impacted by sexual misconduct and delivers education in support of Defence's sexual misconduct prevention efforts. 1800 SeMPRO is a 24/7 confidential advice and support service staffed by psychologists and social workers. 

As the Assistant Director Client response team (CRT), you will manage a small team of practitioners, provide clinical and technical oversight, and facilitate the development of team members who are supporting clients impacted by sexual misconduct. You will provide advice to commanders managing incidents of sexual misconduct, and provide subject matters expertise in relation to policy development.    

Applicants deemed suitable with exceptional skills, experience or expertise may be eligible for an Individual Flexibility Arrangement (IFA) in accordance with the IFA provisions of the Defence Enterprise Agreement 2017-2020. This may include additional remuneration and/or the variation of other conditions. In these cases, total remuneration will comprise of base salary + IFA additional remuneration + superannuation. 

About our Team
We are a small team of mental health professionals based in Canberra who support Defence personnel anywhere in Australia and overseas.

The Client Response Team provides confidential help to all Defence personnel, available via telephone, email or text message, using client-focused, trauma-informed principles. This service is available for current or ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) members, APS employees, Defence contractors, ADF Cadets, Instructors or Officers of ADF Cadets, commanders, managers, colleagues, friends, or family members who have been impacted by sexual misconduct.

Our colleagues are research, education, communications, and business intelligence specialists who work collaboratively to achieve results for Defence.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a dynamic Client Response Team.

The role’s key responsibilities are to manage a team of psychologists & social workers who provide support & respond to personnel who have been subjected to unwanted sexualised behaviours in Defence. The Client Response Team also provides advice & assistance to Defence commanders and managers who are managing personnel impacted by sexual misconduct to promote the wellbeing of personnel involved. 

The successful applicant will have the proven ability to:

  • lead and manage people;
  • apply a client focused framework for practice, including a trauma informed care approach;
  • provide clinical supervision;
  • ensure quality assurance using health professional standards;
  • actively engage with stakeholders; and
  • mitigate risk utilising evidence based best practice approaches.
